Carbon aero is the single biggest visual upgrade you can make to an F8x M3 or M4 — but the style names (PSM, CS, VRS, V, GT, GT4, RZ, RSC, 3D, M Performance, Double X) get thrown around with almost no explanation. This guide breaks down every front splitter and rear diffuser style in the VMSS Aero Division range for the BMW F80 M3, F82 M4 and F83 M4, so you can pick the look that suits your build.
All of these parts share the same core spec: genuine 2×2 twill-weave carbon fibre, a high-gloss UV-protected clear coat, bolt-on fitment to the factory M3/M4 bodywork, and a 1-year VMSS Aero Division warranty. What changes between them is the shape — and how loud a statement you want to make.
Front splitter styles, from subtle to aggressive
M Performance — the factory-accessory look
The most restrained option. The M Performance-style front splitter mirrors BMW’s own genuine M Performance accessory — a clean carbon lip that adds subtle definition without shouting. Best for an OEM+ finish that looks factory-fitted.
CS — the M4 CS lip
The CS-style front splitter recreates the sought-after front lip from the limited M4 CS. Slightly sharper than the M Performance lip but still tasteful — the sweet spot for a factory-plus look with a touch more presence.
Laptorr — OEM+ bolt-on
The Laptorr-style lip is a precision OEM-fitment splitter with a sharp, clean profile — a popular direct bolt-on for owners who want definition without a full motorsport blade.
GT — clean and balanced
The GT-style front splitter sharpens the lower bumper with a balanced, purposeful profile. A middle-ground pick that works equally well on a clean street car or a track build.
V — race-inspired
The V-style front splitter has a V-profile lip that sharpens the bumper’s lower edge. Aggressive but balanced — a great step up from the OEM+ lips without going extreme.
3D — layered depth
The 3D-style front splitter adds sculpted, three-dimensional depth to the front bumper for a more visually complex, layered look that catches the light.
RZ — sculpted aggression
The RZ-style front splitter blends aggressive motorsport lines with a clean, sculpted profile — a genuine standout up front while staying tidy.
RSC — Flush vs Gapped
The RSC style comes two ways. The RSC Flush mounts tight against the bumper for a smooth, integrated look with no visible gap. The RSC Gapped sits with a deliberate stepped gap between splitter and bumper — the classic race-car look, and the bolder of the two. Same shape, two very different attitudes.
VRS — the aggressive statement
Inspired by the iconic VRS / Varis motorsport look, the VRS-style front splitter has an extended, sculpted profile that’s noticeably more aggressive than an M Performance lip — a favourite for track-inspired builds that want real front-end width.
GT4 — track-bred
The GT4-style front splitter takes its cue from GT4 race cars — a deep, purposeful blade that pushes the front end towards a full motorsport look with serious presence and downforce.
Double Splitter X — the full motorsport look
The most aggressive front end in the range. The Double Splitter X is a two-tier setup — a sculpted upper lip paired with a lower splitter blade — for maximum presence and front-axle downforce. The one for owners chasing a full race stance.
Rear diffuser styles — finishing the back end
A front splitter looks unfinished without a matching rear. The diffuser replaces or overlays the factory lower valance, frames the exhaust tips and adds depth and aggression. Four styles, from subtle to loud:
M Performance diffuser — subtle and factory-look
The M Performance-style rear diffuser mirrors BMW’s own accessory diffuser — clean carbon detail that pairs perfectly with the M Performance or CS front lip for a cohesive OEM+ build.
3D diffuser — sculpted fins
The 3D rear diffuser brings three-dimensional multi-fin detailing to the rear for extra depth and a more technical, motorsport look.
PSM & PSM V2 — the aggressive multi-piece
The PSM diffuser is our best-selling aggressive multi-piece design. The PSM V2 refines that look further with sharper lines — the pick for a bold, purposeful rear.
F1 Rain Light diffuser — the showpiece
The F1 Rain Light rear diffuser pairs a sculpted carbon diffuser with an integrated F1-style LED rain light — the centre-mounted light seen on GT and F1 machinery. A genuine motorsport statement, and the most head-turning option in the range. (It needs a simple 12V connection during fitting.)
Complete the look
Beyond splitters and diffusers, the Aero Division range now covers the whole car: M Performance and PSM side skirts (F82/F83 M4), front and rear carbon canards, V1–V3 rear bumper spats and front wing grilles. Browse the full VMSS Aero Division collection to build a matched front-to-rear package.
Which style should you choose?
- Want it to look factory-fitted? M Performance, CS or Laptorr up front; M Performance diffuser at the rear.
- Want aggression without going extreme? GT, V or 3D splitter; 3D diffuser.
- Want a track-inspired statement? RZ, VRS or the RSC Gapped; PSM or PSM V2 diffuser.
- Want the boldest possible build? GT4 or Double Splitter X, finished with the F1 Rain Light diffuser.
Material & quality
Every VMSS Aero Division piece is moulded in genuine 2×2 twill-weave carbon fibre over a fibreglass composite base, then finished with a high-gloss UV-protective clear coat that resists yellowing. The result is a lightweight, rigid part with a deep, glassy weave — not a painted or hydro-dipped imitation.
Fitment
All parts are designed for the factory M-car bodywork on the BMW F80 M3 Saloon (2014–2019), F82 M4 Coupé and F83 M4 Convertible (2014–2020), and are not compatible with replica or non-M bumpers. Note that the carbon side skirts are designed for the F82/F83 M4 only. If you’re unsure, message us with your chassis and registration before ordering and we’ll confirm fitment.
Installation
Front splitters fit as a direct add-on to the lower edge of the front bumper using pre-drilled holes, supplied self-tapping screws and 3M double-sided tape — no cutting or permanent modification required. Diffusers mount to the original valance points; canards, spats and grilles are peel-and-stick with pre-applied automotive 3M tape. The F1 Rain Light diffuser also needs a simple switched 12V feed for its LED. We always recommend professional installation for perfect alignment.
Caring for your carbon
Hand wash only, avoid automated brushes, and apply a UV-protectant carbon sealant a couple of times a year to keep the clear coat crisp. Kerb your splitter gently — a scrape-protection lip is a worthwhile add-on for low cars.
Frequently asked questions
Is this real carbon fibre?
Yes — genuine 2×2 twill-weave carbon fibre with a fibreglass composite base and a high-gloss UV clear coat.
Will it fit my F80 M3 / F82 or F83 M4?
Yes, provided your car has the factory M-car bumper (2014–2020). It won’t fit replica or non-M bumpers. Side skirts are F82/F83 M4 only.
Do I need to drill or cut my bumper?
No. Splitters use pre-drilled holes with supplied screws and 3M tape; diffusers, canards and spats need no cutting either.
What’s the difference between RSC Flush and RSC Gapped?
Same splitter shape, different mounting. Flush sits tight to the bumper with no visible gap; Gapped uses a deliberate stepped gap for a bolder, race-car look.
What is the F1 rain light diffuser?
A carbon rear diffuser with an integrated F1-style LED rain light — the centre-mounted light used on GT and F1 cars. It wires to a simple 12V feed during installation.
Which style is the most aggressive?
Up front, the Double Splitter X and GT4; at the rear, the PSM V2 and the F1 Rain Light. The M Performance and CS pieces are the most subtle.
Is there a warranty?
Yes — every VMSS Aero Division part carries a 1-year warranty covering fitment and coating defects, with UK-based support.
