BMW has revealed the production iX4 and a 612hp iX3 M60 xDrive on the same day. The X4 name is returning as a fully electric Neue Klasse SUV coupé, while the iX3 gains its first M Performance flagship.
- The new iX4 is BMW’s third Neue Klasse model and launches globally in March 2027.
- Three versions have been announced: 40 xDrive, 50 xDrive and the 612hp M60 xDrive.
- The iX4 50 xDrive is quoted with up to 514 miles of provisional WLTP range and 400kW charging.
- The iX3 M60 also produces 612hp, reaches 62mph in 3.9 seconds and adds distinctive M lighting and chassis hardware.
- BMW UK has announced iX4 prices and launch details. UK iX3 M60 pricing remains outstanding.
The BMW X4 is back — but now it is electric
The outgoing combustion-engined X4 was closely related to the X3. The new iX4, chassis code NA7, follows the same broad idea — a raised SUV with a coupé-style roofline — but it is built around BMW’s new electric Neue Klasse technology.
That makes it a very different car from the old G02 X4 underneath. It uses an 800-volt electrical architecture, sixth-generation cylindrical battery cells and BMW’s new integrated electronic control system. BMW also says the iX4 has a drag coefficient as low as 0.23, unusually slippery for this type of car.
BMW iX4 range at a glance
| Model | Power | Torque | 0–62mph | Maximum WLTP range |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| iX4 40 xDrive | 374hp | 520Nm | 5.6 sec | 396 miles |
| iX4 50 xDrive | 469hp | 645Nm | 4.9 sec | 514 miles |
| iX4 M60 xDrive | 612hp | 875Nm | 3.9 sec | 483 miles |
All three use two electric motors and xDrive. The 50 xDrive has a quoted usable battery capacity of 108.7kWh and can accept up to 400kW from a suitable DC charger. BMW says a ten-minute rapid-charge stop can add as much as 240 miles under ideal conditions.
The M60 adds more than power. It receives adaptive M suspension, variable sport steering, an electronically controlled M rear differential, dedicated M modes and a model-specific rear spoiler, diffuser and lighting treatment. Standard wheels are 21 inches, with 22-inch designs available.
Lighting is now part of the car’s identity
The iX4 shows how BMW is moving beyond a conventional headlight-and-grille layout. The lamps, illuminated kidney elements and driver-assistance sensors are visually integrated into one front graphic. On the M60, the front light signature includes M-inspired details, while the rear receives its own distinctive animation and design.
BMW’s Iconic Glow package combines adaptive LED headlights, non-dazzling high beam where permitted and illuminated exterior details. Welcome and goodbye animations add another layer of personalisation. This is not simply decorative: lighting hardware, cameras, radar and software are becoming more closely linked than on earlier BMW generations.
The iX3 M60 brings 612hp and M Yellow Lights
The new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive, chassis code NA5, uses two motors to produce 612hp and 875Nm. BMW quotes 0–62mph in 3.9 seconds, a 149mph top speed and up to 468 miles of provisional WLTP range. Its 400kW charging capability can add a claimed 211 miles in ten minutes under ideal conditions.
Its most eye-catching feature is the introduction of M Yellow Lights, inspired by BMW’s M Hybrid V8 racing car. Depending on market regulations, the yellow illumination is linked to the low-beam function. Three extra light elements beside the kidney grille reference the M colours, and an M logo is incorporated into the front signature.
The rest of the M treatment includes adaptive M suspension, variable sport steering, an M Sport differential, model-specific mirrors, diffuser and roof spoiler, plus 21-inch wheels as standard. Inside are M Sport seats, a red-centred steering wheel with Boost and M Mode buttons, and M-specific displays within BMW Panoramic iDrive.
What changes inside both cars
The iX4 and iX3 M60 use BMW Panoramic iDrive with Operating System X. Key information is projected across the lower windscreen through Panoramic Vision, while a 17.9-inch central display handles most secondary functions. A three-dimensional head-up display is optional.
BMW’s “Heart of Joy” control computer coordinates the drivetrain, braking, energy recovery and handling systems. BMW says it processes information up to ten times faster than earlier control units, with the aim of making responses feel more natural and consistent.
In approved markets, the cars can also support hands-free Motorway Assistant at speeds of up to 81mph. Availability will depend on local rules, specification and software.
What this means for owners and modifiers
The new iX4 may share a badge and silhouette with the old X4, but its NA7 platform means old G02 X4 parts should not be assumed to fit. Even pieces that look straightforward — splitters, grilles, bumpers and lighting trims — will need to account for integrated sensors, active airflow hardware and new mounting points.
The same caution applies within the new range. The iX4 M60 has model-specific lighting, aero and chassis details that differ from the 40 and 50 xDrive versions. The iX3 M60 also has its own front and rear treatment compared with the standard iX3.
VMSS follows new BMW developments closely because accurate fitment and technology information informs the aftermarket parts, bodykits and lighting modifications we design, manufacture and supply. We will not claim compatibility until the production cars and their regional specifications can be measured and verified.
