BMW’s latest updates connect three very different sides of the brand: the next wave of electric cars, a heritage-inspired M2 and a diesel X7 with a darker look. Here is what has changed, where it applies and what enthusiasts should know.

The quick read
  • Gen6 battery assembly has started in Shenyang for future China-built Neue Klasse cars.
  • India has opened orders for the M2 xDrive Turbo Edition; Japan has added an X7 Black Line.
  • BMW UK has introduced specialist support for eligible 7 Series and i7 chauffeur operators.
  • US i5 update reports need caution: published range figures currently disagree.

Neue Klasse battery production reaches China

Official announcement: 15 October 2026. Shenyang has become BMW’s third Gen6 high-voltage battery assembly location after Debrecen and Irlbach-Straßkirchen. It will supply future Neue Klasse vehicles manufactured in China. [1]

The cylindrical-cell design integrates cells directly into the pack. BMW quotes more than 20% greater cell energy density and up to 30% improvements in charging speed and range compared with its previous generation. These are technology-level comparisons, not a promised 30% increase for every model or an upgrade for existing cars.

For owners, the practical development is a wider production base behind the new generation. It does not establish interchangeability between regional vehicles or components.

M2 xDrive Turbo Edition: heritage with all-wheel drive

Official announcement: 13 October; specialist coverage: 14 October 2026. India. Pre-orders are open for a strictly limited M2 xDrive Turbo Edition, with allocation on a first-come basis. BMW has not disclosed the total allocation or price in its announcement. [2]

Alpine White paint, hand-painted Motorsport stripes, reversed bonnet lettering and carbon details evoke the 1973 BMW 2002 turbo. Carbon bucket seats and an Alcantara steering wheel continue the theme inside. BMW quotes 480 hp and 0–100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. This is an Indian-market announcement; it does not confirm UK availability.

Japan’s X7 Black Line keeps diesel in the picture

Official announcement and sales opening: 14 October 2026. Japan. The G07 X7 xDrive40d Black Line adds dark exterior accents, 22-inch black wheels, six seats, Bowers & Wilkins audio and a Sky Lounge roof. Deliveries are planned from late October. [3]

It is a specification package for the current diesel SUV, not a new-generation X7. It also reinforces an important distinction: news about the next 3 Series dropping diesel must not be read as BMW abandoning diesel throughout its range.

UK 7 Series owners: a new chauffeur programme

Official announcement: 14 October 2026. UK. Eligible professional operators using the new 7 Series or i7 can access five-year unlimited-mileage servicing, a year of Security PRO and mobility support during warranty repairs. Terms and eligibility apply. [4]

Qualifying i7 orders placed by the end of 2026 can include a Pod home charger if installation is completed by March 2027. This offer is for the specified professional programme; private retail buyers should not assume the same benefits.

US i5 update: check the range figure before comparing

Specialist report: 14 October 2026. US only. BMWBLOG reports unchanged starting prices of $67,100 for eDrive40, $70,100 for xDrive40 and $84,100 for M60, before destination charges. It also describes a $950 Convenience Package and Bowers & Wilkins becoming an M60-only option. [5]

However, its quoted maximum eDrive40 range of 328 miles differs from BMW USA’s model page, which currently displays 278–310 miles; xDrive40 figures also differ. [6] Treat the claimed increase as unresolved until BMW clarifies the exact specification and testing basis. US mileage figures and dollar prices do not establish UK WLTP range or UK pricing.

New X5 styling is not reserved for the top model

Specialist photo report: 13 October 2026; catch-up. BMWBLOG’s new photographs show the G65 X5 40 xDrive with M Performance styling, including carbon front add-ons and a black roof spoiler. This illustrates the visual scope beyond the M60e; exact component compatibility still depends on the model and equipment. Read the original report and view its photographs.

Smaller updates worth knowing

  • US ownership — 13 October: BMW-branded credit cards have revised rewards, including qualifying fuel, charging and toll purchases. Benefits depend on the issuer’s terms and do not apply to UK cards. [8]
  • Gaming catch-up: the M4 CS joins Forza Horizon 6’s Horizon Meets update. The official announcement dates to 5 October, so this is an earlier development receiving fresh coverage, rather than a new physical M4 model. [9]
  • Swiss demand — reported 14 October: BMWBLOG cites 684 Q3 iX3 registrations, making it BMW’s leading model there during the quarter. That is a Swiss registration result, not a UK or global ranking. [10]

What modifiers should take from this

Regional editions show how much the same model name can vary. Check the chassis, production date, bumper design, lighting specification and sensor equipment before choosing a retrofit. An appearance package does not prove that its parts fit every version of the model.

VMSS follows BMW developments to inform the aftermarket parts, bodykits and lighting modifications we design, manufacture and supply.
